What Does It Mean To Be A Cottage Food Bakery

Updated: Jun 20, 2023

Here at Deelightfully Gluten-Free LLC we are currently a fully licensed cottage food home bakery. And while that scares some people away, it shouldn't. At least give us a try!

But what is a cottage food bakery? Let me tell you!

Florida cottage food laws incorporate some of the best features to encourage entrepreneurship. Florida is among those states that make it easy to start your own cottage food business.

Florida law allows individuals to use their unlicensed home kitchens to produce for sale certain foods that present a low risk of foodborne illness. Cottage food operators can produce and sell these products directly to consumers without obtaining a food permit from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Gross sales for a cottage food operation must not exceed $250,000 annually.

I think this is what scares people off the most "Cottage food operations do not require a license or permit from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) and are not inspected by any state government entity." HOWEVER, If you'd like to come over and see the kitchen we work out of we are more then happy to make that happen! You can even try some free samples while you're here! That's a Win-Win!

However, they do have rules on what you can and can’t serve, the maximum you can make annually and require you follow and local codes for business licensing, zoning, etc…

Always contact your local city / county office and verify if a business license is required prior to starting.

Deelightfully Gluten-Free LLC is registered with sunbiz.com as a legal business!
