Celebrating Special Occasions with Gluten-Free Treats | Gluten-Free Bakery | DeeGlutenFree

Updated: Jun 20, 2023

As more and more people discover they have gluten sensitivities or celiac disease, the demand for gluten-free treats has skyrocketed. But there's no need to feel left out when it comes to celebrating special occasions!

Celebrating

With a little creativity, you can still indulge in delicious treats that are completely gluten-free. Whether it's a birthday, graduation, or anniversary, you can still enjoy all the sweets and treats of the occasion.

One option is to make your own gluten-free treats. There are countless recipes available online, from gluten-free cakes and cupcakes to cookies and brownies. With gluten-free flour like almond flour, coconut flour, or oat flour, you can create baked goods that are just as delicious as their gluten-containing counterparts.

If you don't have the time or inclination to bake from scratch or you aren't sure how to, there are gluten-free options available at grocery stores (taste, texture, and quality are sometimes questionable) and our personal favorite BAKERIES. These days, many bakeries offer gluten-free options for everything from cupcakes to wedding cakes. And you can find gluten-free cookies, brownies, and other treats alongside their traditional counterparts. (You do need to be careful of cross-contamination if you are not going to a dedicated gluten-free bakery.) Luckily, here at Delightfully Gluten-Free, we are a completely gluten-free bakery, with nothing containing gluten of any kind!

You might also consider going the fruit route. Fresh fruit can be a delicious and healthy way to celebrate special occasions. A beautiful fruit platter or a fruit-based dessert can be just as impressive and tasty as a cake or pie. (But cakes and pies are better! Or cake jars, cookies, cheesecakes....)

No matter what approach you take, the key is to focus on the joy of the occasion, rather than the foods you can't eat. Celebrate with friends and loved ones, and savor the moment! With so many gluten-free options available, there's no need to feel left out when it comes to celebrating special occasions.

Here are some tips to help you navigate gluten-free celebrations:

1. Plan ahead: If you know in advance that you will be attending a celebration, make sure to communicate with the host/hostess about your dietary needs. Offer to bring a dish that you can eat and share with others.

2. Research: Do your research on gluten-free options in your area. Check out restaurants, bakeries, or stores that specialize in gluten-free foods. This will give you some ideas of what to look for when you are at a party or event.

3. Eat before you go: If you are unsure of the food options that will be available, eat something before you go. This will help curb your hunger and avoid the temptation of foods that may not be gluten-free. (Our cake jars are small enough to put in your purse. They are perfect for a BYOD (Bring your own dessert) situation.)

4. Be mindful: When you arrive at the event, take time to assess your options. Look for foods that are naturally gluten-free such as fruits and vegetables. Avoid foods that are breaded, fried, or have sauces or dressings that may contain gluten.

5. Enjoy yourself: Remember, celebrations are about having fun and spending time with loved ones. Don't stress too much about your diet, focus on enjoying the atmosphere and the company you are with.

Overall, celebrating special occasions while maintaining a gluten-free diet can be challenging, but with some planning and mindfulness, you can still enjoy yourself and be a part of the celebration.

Enjoy!
